Inexpensive And Really Worth Every Penny - Antivirus Vista 2010 Software Review

By Alexander Smith

Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal.

I had left the computer in sleep mode and went into the kitchen when the hacker broke in. Because Norton gave him the passwords for my EMAIL Accounts, he logged on and changed the passwords and I could no longer access these EMAIL accounts. It does not extend the prior subscription. This is irritating and should be fixed. If you check their website, there are others with the same problem. If the next phone call does not resolve the problem, I will take a loss and purchase another system.

Each time I remove it and reinstalled the Norton replacement product. All of the other software packages had two short-fallings. Norton has improved its product, for the better, making your computer smarter at fighting off nefarious tricks to gain your identity. Norton's Internet Security is a solid 5 stars, if there is anything wrong, it is minor and it will be covered with the auto-update feature. A Full System Scan on my system, which includes a 160 GB and a 1 TB network drive, took over 4 hours. But what the Full System Scan lack in scan speeds it makes up for in its low demand on system resources. They pretty much insist students use Avast or MacAfee. Everybody has an opinion, but I think it's unfair to force students ditch a product they've already paid for! I'm a SW professional and mentioned this to a peer who immediately recognized the pattern and said Yea, Norton becomes a virus.' My impression is that Norton has gone to the dark side. I can't imagine ever going with them again. I have heard others complaining about the price but I would have to say that you really get what you pay for and Norton includes free support with your subscription so if you do have any problems you can get an answer. I had problems with Norton 360 didn't want to stay in my computer tried deleting and re-installing.

I made the big mistake of installing NIS on 3 different machines and now every one of them will completely freeze on a regular basis (sometimes multiple times per day) while browsing the web. It requires a hard power cycle in order to recover.

The best buys, in my view, are Norton Internet Security 3-User license, CCleaner (it's free!), Diskeeper and for backup of files onto a NAS, Memeo Backup Professional. I use Acronis True Image for image backups, but I find it unreliable (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't). I have also used two competing products. Its system performance impact is something that one does notice, but it has improved over the years.

The only thing is that once you have installed the program your subscription for all three PC's start on that same day. However, I am a very pleased customer! Norton's Internet Security doesn't slow a computer down, at least mine, and most important it works in the back ground. I must add this caveat, there is no computer program that will keep your children totally or completely safe, so good parental judgment on computer usage is always a plus, but Norton's parental control management helps in monitoring usage.
